Bouncing Bomb - Crew Back
  • Bouncing Bomb - Crew Back

Sir Barnes Wallis was responsible for designing and developing the incredible 'Bouncing Bomb' which, dropped by 617 Squadron smashed the great dams of the Ruhr.

Developed in partnership with his daughter, our great friend Mary Stopes-Roe and the Barnes Wallis Family This T-Shirt showcases with each illustrative 'bounce' the development of his 'Upkeep' design. From the glass marble experiments in the garden with Mary and his other children to the fantastic 'Upkeep' mine.

Each development is pictured in full colour bouncing along the word 'Chastise' - the name given to the operation. Below is the great engineer's signature. Featured at the bottom is the official 'operation order' wording issued on the 15th May 1943. Which literally started the ball rolling!

The reverse of the shirt features each of the 617 Squadron Aircraft Squadron Codes along with each crew member who flew in them. The aircraft and crews listed in red were the aircraft that didn't return. We WILL Remember Them.

Part of the proceeds from each sale is donated to The Barnes Wallis Foundation.
